Already in the third generation, the Hettegger family from the Austrian Grossarl Valley are passionate hosts. The foundation stone for this was laid in 1978, when the couple Anna and Peter Hettegger built a small bed and breakfast with fourteen rooms – at the same time they raised eleven children. Since then, warm hospitality and family atmosphere have played a major role for the Hetteggers. With these values, as well as a good portion of innovative spirit, foresight and courage, the family has succeeded in establishing a steadily growing company together over the years.

Peter Snr. has been key to the success, as he took on the B&B from his parents and expanded it comprehensively with his family. Together with his son Peter and his wife Karin, they have shaped THE EDELWEISS Salzburg Mountain Resort into what it is today: a state-of-the-art and luxurious resort that convinces with personal character, unique design elements as well as innovative technologies. After an intensive 8-month construction phase, Karin and Peter Hettegger took over the management of the hotel in 2018 and have since been looking after the 5-star hotel in Großarl with daily commitment and heart and soul.

Visionary Peter Hetteger Snr. was not only significantly involved in the success of the headquarter in Grossarl, but also laid the foundation for another hotel with his entrepreneurial know-how and decades of expertise in the hotel and hospitality industry. Together with a friend of his from Berchtesgaden, he came up with the idea for a new hotel project in Bavaria and made it a reality. It was thanks to his pioneering spirit, his determination and his perseverance that the Hotel EDELWEISS Berchtesgaden was ceremoniously opened in May 2010 after an intensive construction period of only 15 months.

The foresight of the Hettegger family has made a significant contribution to development of successful tourism not only in the Grossarltal, but also in Berchtesgaden where they have given the hotel and gastronomy industry in the town an upswing thanks to the opening of the modern hotel, and the takeover of the PANORAMA restaurant and the NEUHAUS inn.

Since its opening, Peters sister Martina Hettegger has been running the four-star superior hotel in the middle of the historic centre of Berchtesgaden. Growing up in her parents' business in Grossarl, she was also born to be a host. With lots of warmth and passion, she manages the hotel together with Hotel Director Christoph Schimpl and her brother, kitchen director Stefan Hettegger. Along with a long-standing and loyal team, they all ensure that special, familiar EDELWEISS feel-good ambience every day.
